Elfin Forest Qigong StudioQigong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention. It is practiced for health maintenance, healing and increasing vitality.

The word Qigong (Chi Kung) is made up of two Chinese words: Qi (pronounced chee) means the life force or vital energy that flows through the body and all things in the universe. Gong (pronounced gung) means accomplishment, or skill that is cultivated through steady practice.

Forms of Qigong Practices

Qigong practices can be classified as martial, medical or spiritual. All styles have three things in common: they all involve a posture (whether moving or stationary), breathing techniques and mental focus. Some practices increase qi; others circulate it, use it to cleanse and heal the body, store it, or emit qi to help heal others. Practices often include a connection to the natural environment. Practices vary from the soft internal styles such as Tai Chi; to the external, vigorous styles such as Kung Fu. However, the slow gentle movements of most Qigong forms can be easily adapted, even for the physically challenged, and can be practiced by all age groups.

The Health Benefits of Qigong

Qigong can be a highly effective health care practice. Many healthcare professionals recommend qigong as an important form of complementary medicine. Qigong creates an awareness of our internal health and involves the meridian system used in acupuncture. The importance of adding mind intent is emphasized along with breathing techniques and physical movements. When these dimensions are added, the benefits increase exponentially. The gentle, rhythmic movements of consistent qigong practice can reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality and enhance the immune system. Practices have also been found to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive health.

People practice qigong to maintain health, heal their bodies, calm their minds, and reconnect with their spirit. When these three aspects of our being are integrated, it encourages a positive outlook on life and helps eliminate harmful attitudes and behaviors. It also creates a balanced lifestyle, which brings greater harmony, stability and enjoyment.

Since qigong can be practiced anywhere or at any time, there is no need to buy special clothing or to join a health club, however when learning qigong it is helpful to start with a group or class. Qigong’s great appeal is that everyone can benefit, regardless of ability, age, belief system or life circumstances.

Zhineng Qigong was created by Dr. Pang Ming, an extraordinary qigong Grandmaster. By combining his profound knowledge of Chinese medicine with modern science, he helped revive the ancient Chinese internal cultivation of qigong as a healing art, as well as a modern science of body-mind. He founded the largest physician-staffed energy-healing hospital in China, where Zhineng Qigong was used to study body-mind science and its applications to self-healing. Currently well over 10 million people practice Zhineng Qigong worldwide. This system of qigong synthesizes 5,000 year-old traditional Chinese healing arts with modern science to create a powerful system for healing on all levels of being.
